(PT) Entrevista com Sam Rourke dos Circa Waves. 

O Watch and Listen teve a oportunidade de entrevistar Sam Rourke que é o baixista da banda de Liverpool, os Circa Waves. Na entrevista, Sam falou-nos como é que a banda se conheceu, como é que o álbum de estreia vai soar, sobre concertos favoritos, como foi andar em tour com os Metronomy, e muito mais. Como é que se conheceram e como é que decidiram formar a banda? 
Nós conhecemo-nos todos num festival local em 2013. Na altura, nenhum de nós estava a fazer muito musicalmente e acabámos por fazer planos tardios para termos alguma coisa a acontecer no festival no ano seguinte. Depois disso, basicamente trancámo-nos na sala de ensaios durante uns 4 meses e depois fomos para a estrada.

Porque é que não podem dizer de onde vem o nome Circa Waves?
Porque é um segredo!

Podes dizer-nos como é que o vosso álbum de estreia vai soar? E quando é que o irão lançar? 
Com o álbum nós tentámos mesmo capturar a energia ao vivo que entra nos nossos concertos. É fácil gravar um álbum agora que vai muito além do que uma banda é capaz de reproduzir em palco, mas nós quisemos mantê-lo o mais natural e real possível. Vai sair no início do próximo ano, com sorte.

Zane Lowe e NME foram uma grande ajuda no sucesso da tua banda. Sentem que se não fossem eles, a vossa banda não se teria tornado reconhecida tão depressa?
Bem, ambos são ditadores de tendências no Reino Unido, por isso, ter o apoio deles tem sido fantástico. Quando te acontece pela primeira vez é do género, ficas a saber que estás no caminho certo e esse incentivo ajuda realmente nos primeiros dias.

Vocês andaram em digressão com os Metronomy. Como é que foi? E sentem que ganham mais fãs depois de andarem em digressão com outros artistas? 
Nós somos todos grandes fãs dos Metronomy, por isso, terem-nos pedido para tocarmos com eles foi fantástico. Eles são uma banda tão boa ao vivo que penso que tivemos aumentar um pouco o nosso jogo o que foi bom. É difícil de dizer se ganhas muitos mais fãs mas é igualmente bom estar em frente a pessoas que podem não te ter ouvido antes e conquistá-las.

Qual foi o vosso concerto favorito que deram até agora?
Eu penso que todos temos diferentes, mas um que se destaca para mim é quando fizemos o Live & Leeds este verão. O público foi surreal. Leeds tem sido uma cidade que sempre adorou bandas de guitarra e foi bom ver que a tradição ainda continua.

Se pudesses fazer uma banda sonora para um filme que bandas ou músicas escolherias para fazer parte da mesma? 
Sou um grande fã das bandas sonoras do Woody Allen, por isso, acho que seguiria esse caminho. Pessoas como Harry James, Count Basie, Benny Goodman e Tommy Dorsey.

(ING) Interview with Sam Rourke from Circa Waves

Watch and Listen had the chance to interview Sam Rourke the bassist from Liverpool's band, Circa Waves. In the interview, Sam told us about how the band met, how the debut album is going to sound like, about favorite shows, how was it going on tour with Metronomy, and so much more. Read the interview below.

How did you meet and how did you decide to start the band?
We all met at a local festival in 2013. At the time none of us were up to much musically and ended up making late night plans to have something going for the festival the year after. After that we basically locked ourselves in the rehearsal room for about 4 months and then hit the road. 

Why can’t you say where the name Circa Waves came from?
Because it's a secret!

Can you describe how your debut album is going to sound like? And when are you going to release it?
With the album we really tried to capture the live energy that goes into our shows. It's easy to record an album now that goes way beyond what a band is capable of reproducing on stage but we really wanted to keep it as natural and real as possible. It's going to be out early next year hopefully.

Zane Lowe and NME were really helpful with your band’s success. Do you think if it hadn’t been for them your band wouldn’t have become successful so fast?
Well they're both massive tastemakers in the UK so to have their support has been great. When it first happens it sort of lets you know that you're on the right track and that encouragement really helps in the early days. 

You were on tour with Metronomy. How was it? And do you feel you gain more fans after touring with other artists?
We're all big fans of Metronomy so to be asked to play some dates with them was amazing. They're such a good live band that I think we all had to up our game a little bit which is good. It's hard to tell if you gain many more fans but it's just good to get in front of people that may not have heard you before and win them over.
     
What was your favorite show that you’ve played so far?
I think we all have different ones but one that sticks out for me is when we did Live at Leeds this summer. The crowd were just unreal. Leeds has always been a town that's loved guitar bands and it was good to see that the tradition is still going. 

If you could make a soundtrack for a movie which bands or songs would you choose to be a part of it?
I'm a massive fan of Woody Allen soundtracks so I think I'd go down that road. Guys like Harry James, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey.
